After a career in computer programming for a large retailer, and with her own children grown, Shea seized the opportunity to pursue a lifelong dream and enrolled in law school. Upon her graduation, she completed a year of service as an AmeriCorps attorney, providing civil legal representation to veterans and their families. That led to a legal fellowship sponsored by Equal Justice Works with an emphasis on removing barriers to employment. She joined our team in the spring of 2016 and has found that her work to help families also gives her an avenue to serve her community, something Shea is passionate about.
“I believe that some of my life experiences, both past and present, give me the ability to connect with my clients with genuine empathy and understanding. I have, myself, been involved with the legal system in the area of custody and know first-hand how uncomfortable it can be. To be that counsel, there to explain the legal options, procedures, and timelines while representing my clients’ best interests is what I want to do for my clients.”
Life Outside the Office
Shea and her husband, Chris, became grandparents in the fall of 2013 and they love to spend time with the grand-girls. One of those grand-girls now lives with them so the grandparents are now parents as well (wondering some days if they are going to survive as second-time, late-in-life, parents to a preschooler)! Days begin early in her household, but Shea is still able to snatch a quiet hour before the demands of her active young granddaughter become the focus.
Shea is active in her church and her spiritual life is fundamental to her dreams and goals. Whether jumping on a trampoline, exploring the outdoors, or just sitting quietly with a book, the family enjoys all of their time together and looks forward to all of life’s adventures.
